Fans Reveal Real Reason for Return as Demond Williams Announces Washington Decision

Demond Williams Jr. is staying at Washington, despite a report earlier in the week stating that he was transferring out. The news was shared by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on X this Thursday. Williams’ decision puts some question marks on LSU’s quarterback, as it’s reported that Lane Kiffin was highly interested in the signal-caller.

Fans online opined that the only reason behind the player’s decision to continue playing for Washington was that the school threatened legal action for violating a $4 million NIL deal he signed on January 2.

“I wouldn’t want to get sued either,” joked one fan.

“He got forced to stay lol,” said another fan.

Fans largely agreed that there was likely an NIL scuffle at play.

“Lol didn’t wanna give that money back,” claimed one person.

“😂😂😂😂😂 he never left bro got scared of the law,” joked yet another fan.

“He forgot how contracts work 💀💀,” was another common jab at the quarterback.

Is this Lane Kiffin’s fault? Some fans seem to think so.

“Good! It is the right thing to do! This whole situation makes Lane Kidfin look like a sleaze bag with no ethics!,” complained one fan.

Is this a poor move by the Huskies?

“Washington gotta be a poverty team to take back a mid QB who didn’t wanna be there anymore,” said one person.

“LOL. A winning culture and program wouldn’t have him back period,” claimed one fan.

What does this mean for LSU’s quarterback search?

“LSU is announcing a lucky fan to be QB1 soon,” said one fan.

Demond Williams Jr. on his decision to stay at Washington

Right before Thursday’s Fiesta Bowl, Demond Williams Jr. published a statement on his Instagram account, explaining his decision to stay at Washington, and apologizing for the confusion his transfer attempt caused.

“I am fully committed and focused on contributing to what we are building,” he wrote in the post.

He also apologized for his situation, taking attention away from the ceremonies in honor of Mia Hamant, a Washington women’s soccer player who recently died of cancer.

“I never intended to call attention away from such an important moment,” he wrote.

Jedd Fisch, Washington’s head coach, released a statement of his own, saying that he will work with the quarterback to rebuild the community’s trust in him.
