Sophomore WR Johntay Cook II has officially committed to play for the Syracuse Orange next season, per On3 reporter Hayes Fawcett. He will play for head coach Fran Brown as he heads to upstate New York.
This will be the 20-year-old’s third team within a year, prompting college football fans around the country to have mixed reactions across social media.

Fans React to WR Johntay Cook II’s 2025 Commitment to Syracuse

“Dawg ain’t this like his 5th school since like December?” one fan jokingly quipped.
Near the end of last season, the receiver transferred to Washington to play for the Huskies. This didn’t last long, though. So while it hasn’t been five schools like the user said, it’s still been three in a very short period of time.
Just over two weeks after his transfer became official, he and Washington had parted ways. Since then, Cook has been arrested twice—once for “misdemeanor, theft, and interfering with public duties on February 4, and a second time two weeks later for “possession of less than two ounces of marijuana.”
Still, Cook’s receiving talent is there. If he can stay out of trouble, he’ll be a great offensive pickup for Fran Brown and the Orange.
Fans echoed this, saying how big of a get this was.

Cook II previously played 19 games for the Texas Longhorns. A five-star prospect, Cook assisted his high school team to a 10-2 overall record and an appearance in the 6A Division 1 quarterfinals in 2020.

While it is yet to be seen how Cook will fit into Syracuse’s program, the Orange will begin their 2025 campaign on August 30 when they host the mighty Tennessee Volunteers out of the SEC. Their slate also includes showdowns at Clemson, SMU, Miami, and Notre Dame and home games against North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Boston College.
