Amid growing tensions, rumors, and speculations across the world of college football, Lane Kiffin made the Rebels’ fans’ nightmare a reality. Last week, Kiffin left Ole Miss for the LSU Tigers, leaving his playoff-bound team in the middle of a successful season.
On Monday, he was officially introduced as LSU’s coach as he met the reporters in Baton Rouge. There were a lot of unanswered questions about his decision, despite the statement he released, but Kiffin revealed something that piqued a lot of ears.
The Tigers coach, during the press conference, talked about a scary encounter he had on his way to the airport. Kiffin revealed that while he was trying to leave, some Rebels fans, who were possibly hurt by his decision, tried to run his car off the road.
“I think that people get really upset when you leave somewhere because they feel hurt because you’re doing a really good job,” Kiffin SAID. “They ain’t going to the airport and driving from all over to say those things and yell those things and try to run you off the road if you were doing bad.”
The allegation isn’t something that can be masked as fans overreacting to the coach’s decision. It’s way more serious. And if it wasn’t just a bad example from Kiffin, is something that should be looked into by the authorities.
Despite the seriousness of Kiffin’s statement, Ole Miss legend Eli Manning had a quirky remark for it. The two-time Super Bowl champion commented on the news.
“Oops!” he wrote.

Kiffin’s leadership this season resulted in one of the most successful stretches the program has ever seen. Now headed toward more serious matchups this season, Kiffin didn’t want to leave his team before the playoffs.

Lane Kiffin Wanted to Coach the Rebels During Playoffs
Kiffin was being linked to several programs for the last few weeks. There was a time when even some NFL teams were reportedly interested in bringing him in. However, LSU offered the right things and took him away.
It was almost certain that Kiffin was about to leave Ole Miss, but before parting ways, he wanted to be with the team he built through the playoffs. In his official statement, the former Rebels coach talked about his wish.
“I was hoping to complete a historic six season run with this year’s team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs,” Kiffin said. My request to do so was denied by Keith Carter despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level of performance.”

The Egg Bowl was Kiffin’s last game with the Rebels, and he left on a high note, registering a dominant 38-19 win.
