The Miami Dolphins tied the Chicago Bears 24-24 in their preseason opener at Soldier Field courtesy of a strong ground game and some key defensive stands.
Miami’s rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers, who played with Arch Manning last year for the Texas Longhorns, got his first NFL start. He completed only 5-of-18 passes and fumbled twice, in a rough beginning of his pro career.

While Quinn Ewers threw for 91 yards, it was not the greatest start for the former Longhorn. The red zone fumble would ultimately lead to the tie as the Bears were able to score a timely touchdown. The second would give the Bears a shot to win the game, but the Dolphins defense prevailed.

Miami Dolphins vs Chicago Bears Game Summary
On the defensive side, the secondary of Miami created two interceptions and did not allow big plays on the outside. The late Chicago surge in the third quarter was negated by disciplined tackling and coverage in the open field.
The Miami offense got going in the second quarter as De’Von Achane scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown, and later Jaylen Wright scored on the ground to make it 14-0 Miami. Chicago responded in the first half when Tyson Bagent threw a passing touchdown, and Cairo Santos ended the half with a 57-yard field goal.
The Bears would respond with a 3-play touchdown drive following the Ewers fumble to take the lead. The Dolphins would come back in the fourth quarter behind an Ollie Gordon one-yard touchdown to make it 21-17 Miami. Jahdae Walker’s 14-yard touchdown reception would put the Bears ahead with 8:38 left. The Dolphins would answer with a 56-yard Jason Sanders field goal
Efficient red zone offense in the preseason debut should be a learning experience for the Dolphins and Ewers. Miami is up next against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Bears will take on the Buffalo Bills in their second preseason game.
