DJ Lagway Transfer Portal: Top 5 Landing Spots For Florida QB Ft. James Madison University

After Billy Napier was fired from Florida, the writing was already on the wall for his top quarterback, DJ Lagway. The current Gators QB1 had been a staunch loyalist for Napier, and when he was fired, people expected him to go soon. Now, On3’s Pete Nakos has reported that Lagway is indeed planning to leave Florida and enter the transfer portal once it opens on January 2.

Where Lagway would land is now a big question, especially as there are a lot of big schools out there that need a quarterback of his caliber. Lagway had been solid for the Gators and was why Napier had placed so much trust in him. However, a bad year at Florida led to Napier’s firing, which soon led to what is happening now.

5 Destinations For DJ Lagway After Entering The Transfer Portal

    James Madison University Dukes

Hands down the odds-on favorite for where he should go, as this is where Billy Napier has landed after he was fired from Florida. Saying that Napier and Lagway are close would be an understatement as JMU would be the likeliest school to get him. The school will also need a new quarterback after all the offseason movements are done, so why not the crown jewel of Napier’s former team?

    LSU Tigers

On the odd chance that Lagway chooses not to go to his old coach, there is also LSU, which also has a new coach in Lane Kiffin, as well as a massive quarterback vacancy, especially with Garrett Nussmeier expected to graduate this year. If he chooses not to go to JMU, LSU will be a very premier choice, especially with Kiffin’s credentials.

    Texas A&M Aggies

DJ Lagway is originally from Texas, and him entering the transfer portal could mean he may be wanting to go home after all that drama in Florida. The team has shown that they could compete to be one of the best college football teams in the country, and this may be where he might want to go, especially as they could provide him with his NIL needs. One problem here is Marcel Reed is still a sophomore and might stay.

    Texas Tech Red Raiders

Another team from his home state, Texas Tech has risen to be one of the top four teams in the country, boasting an 11-1 record. This is one team he could make a strong impact with right out of the gate.

    Miami Hurricanes

If he is still not sick of sunny Florida, however, Miami might be the next place to go, especially with Carson Beck expected to leave for the NFL. The school also has a record of producing elite quarterbacks, so he would fit right in.
