Deion Sanders Sends Stern Message to Warren Sapp, Pat Shurmur and Other Coaches During Week 2 Practice

Head coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes did not have the performance they were looking for in Week 1 of the college football season. The team lost 27-20 to Georgia Tech on Friday and made some questionable clock management decisions on their final drive of the game. Sanders is hoping that his team can avoid a similar disappointing fate in Week 2.

On Wednesday, Well Off Media posted a video from a Buffaloes practice. At the practice, Coach Prime spoke to his players, Warren Sapp, Pat Shurmur, and the rest of his coaching staff about his expectations for the practice. He emphasized the importance of working hard and told his coaches to take players out who were not giving it their all.

“Let’s make a decision to work. Let’s work like you’ve never worked before,” Deion Sanders said (Timestamp 11:35). “Personally, coaches, I’m asking you, if they’re not working, you’re gonna get them out. If I get them out, they’re not going back in. If you get them out, you got a chance to rotate. If I get them out, they’re not going back in. We understand coaches? Let’s work today. Let’s break it down.”

Deion Sanders Stands Firm in His Clock Management Decisions Against Georgia Tech

While Deion Sanders is trying to ensure his team is ready to play hard in Week 2, there are many fans and media members who lay the blame for the Week 1 loss at Coach Prime’s feet. On the final drive of the game, Sanders did not use his timeouts like many thought he should have. As a result, the team was forced to attempt a Hail Mary late in the game to try to tie the game.

Despite the criticism, Sanders spoke on Tuesday about his decisions and stood firm on how he managed the clock.

“Okay, let’s just get the cat out the bag,” Deion Sanders said. “First down. We throw a lateral pass, right? We lose four four or five yards. Do you call timeout there? No, you’re right there. You don’t call timeout there. You got to go. You got to go. So you’re running tempo, right?”

He continued to break down the rest of the drive, explaining his mindset on each play. While he is defending his decisions publicly, it will be interesting to see if Coach Prime makes adjustments in Week 2.
