As Shedeur Sanders prepares to sail away to the NFL, he leaves behind a Colorado Buffaloes team he helped build from the ground up. Stepping into his shoes are two potential successors. There is freshman Julian Lewis and former Liberty Flames quarterback Kaidon Salter, who will play his final season with the Buffaloes.
However, after watching a practice video of Salter, it seems Lewis may have to wait a bit longer for his chance at the spotlight.

Deion Sanders Jr. Is Impressed by Kaidon Salter
Deion Sanders Jr., Coach Prime’s oldest son, shared a video on the “Well Off Media” YouTube channel where Colorado athletes were seen rigorously practicing. Along with it, he lauded Salter, posting on X: “THIS AINT NO REGULAR QB FOOTWORK – Kaidon Salter”
Salter also talks about the importance of putting in work “every day” during practice on another “Well Off Media” video titled, “Shedeur Did His Thing Now It’s MY TURN.”
Salter seems to know what’s expected of him if he wants to help keep Colorado running. In 2023, he led Conference USA in passing yards and yards per completion.
His best passer rating that year was even higher than Sanders’ himself, as he was the second among FBS QBs. This is a good sign for the Buffaloes, who hope Salter can match or even improve on Sanders’ passing performance.
Salter knows he has big shoes to fill, but he’s ready to step up.
“Shedeur did his thing here, but it’s time for me to come in and do what I got to do. … It’s time to start my own legacy here for my last year,” Salter said.
“The culture that Deion has brought here, from when Colorado was 1-11 to what we were last year at 9-4 and making a bowl game appearance, everything that they did, it stood on business.”

Salter brings different capabilities to the table compared to Shedeur Sanders, as the former Flames signal-caller is a strong runner. Over his four years at Liberty, he accumulated 2,006 rushing yards.
Along with his running game, Salter threw for 5,887 yards and 56 touchdowns. His best season came in 2023 when he passed for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns. In 2024, his production dipped a bit, and threw for 1,886 yards and 15 TDs.
