Deion Sanders Jr. has had the power to reveal details that no one knew about his father Deion Sanders, and his mother, Carolyn Chambers. As a member of the family, he has seen plenty up close and personal that he may never reveal. However, he chose to reveal something deeply personal about his mother in a Saturday’s episode of the Well Off Media Podcast.
Via a Tuesday post from Complex, Sanders spoke about the trials and tribulations that his mother faced as her son grew up.
“She’s been through a lot,” he said. “She lost her brother. She lost her sister. She damn near lost everybody. She still got us, but she lost a lot of her family.”
Sanders spoke about how the situation tested his mother’s faith.
“Through tough times, it’s really hard to trust God, and sometimes you ask God why,” he said. “Sometimes you get mad at God, but she kept faith through it all, and she was a great mother, and she still taught us no matter what’s going on. You know, there’s a reason for everything.”
Carolyn was married to current Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders for nearly a decade from 1989 to 1998. The couple had two children: Deion Sanders Jr. and Deiondra Sanders. Sanders married Pilar Biggers-Sanders in 1999 and divorced again in 2013. During that time, he had three more children: Shilo, Sheduer, and Shelomi.

Plenty of statements have been made about how the upcoming season will make or break the team’s head coach, Deion Sanders. However, he isn’t the only one with a lot on the line. Sanders’ son Deion Sanders Jr. revealed that his own employment prospects could be on the line if things go sideways this year.
In a conversation with Colorado Buffaloes Director of Player Personnel Darius Darden-Box on his Well Off Media vlog via a June 9 Complex post, Sanders joked his own employment was on the line.
“Well, I appreciate you, man, because we gotta win,” Sanders Jr. said with a laugh. “Or I’mma be out of a job.”
Sanders has been the de facto documentarian for the Buffaloes, providing behind-the-scenes looks at his father and the rest of the program. His footage has included looks at team meetings, recruitment visits and other moments.
If his father fails to see 2027 as a member of the Buffaloes, his son will meet the same fate. At least, that is how Sanders Jr. sees it.
Sanders finished 3-9 in 2025, his second season with a .333 win percentage or lower in three seasons. 2026 is seen by many as the pattern setter. A winning season will give Sanders a case to stick around for time to come. A losing season will make a case for Colorado to cut ties.
