Bryce Underwood is nowhere near the list of favorites to win the 2025 Heisman Trophy. Saying that a win by the Michigan quarterback would be a surprise is an understatement. A recent report shows Underwood at a +5000 longshot in the Heisman Trophy odds.

The founder of Barstool Sports has predicted that Underwood will win the coveted award this upcoming season. When asked this Thursday who he thought would win the Heisman in 2025, Portnoy replied:
“Well I think it’s going to be… Bryce Underwood”
Underwood, who hasn’t yet played his first college football game, nor turned 18 yet for that matter, was the top prospect in the class of 2025 according to 247Sports. A native of Belleville, Michigan, he led the local high school to a 10-2 record in 2024 while throwing for 2509 yards with 32 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. His completion percentage was 71.8% in his senior year.
That being said, it’s highly unlikely that Underwood will win the award. For the bookies, the favorite is none other than Texas’s Arch Manning. According to BetMGM, the nephew of famed NFL signal-callers Peyton and Eli Manning has odds of +600 to win the Heisman at the moment. He’s followed by LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, who has odds of +850. The top three are rounded up by Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, both tied with odds of +1000.
Will Bryce Underwood be the Michigan Wolverines’ starter in 2025?
Portnoy’s prediction is especially bold when one considers the Wolverines haven’t even yet named a starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Nonetheless, it seems that the prediction will at least have a shot at happening with recent reports this week pointing to Underwood being close to being named Michigan’s Week 1 starter.
According to an anonymous source close to the Wolverines:
“He’s a unique and rare guy,” a source told CBS Sports.
“He’s been amazing,” one source said. “Awesome human being. Puts in a ton of work. Already commands a room, even with as young as he is. Has a goal to learn everybody’s name in the building and gives the janitor the same respect that he gives the head coach. As a leader, he just gets it.”
CBS Sports also reported that the source seems to believe that Sherrone Moore is close to naming Bryce Underwood as the starter for the Michigan Wolverines, at least for Week 1. The other likely starter for Michigan would have been Davis Warren, who was their starter last season, but he tore his ACL in the ReliaQuest Bowl last December and he’s expected to miss much of 2025.
