Colston Loveland’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Colston Loveland is right in the thick of the TE1 conversation, and in any class without Brock Bowers or Tyler Warren, Loveland would very likely be the unequivocal TE1. Injuries and incompetent quarterback play impacted Loveland’s production in 2024, and yet, he still achieved a career-high 56 catches and five touchdowns, while racking up 582 yards.

While Warren is more complete, Loveland has the higher pass-game ceiling. At 6’6″ and almost 250 pounds, Loveland moves with truly logic-defying flexibility and bend, which lends itself to elite route-running ability.

His route tree is all-encompassing, leveraging razor-sharp instincts, with unmatched athleticism that makes him a mismatch nightmare.

Colston Loveland’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Loveland landed in Round2 with the 36th overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

With Evan Engram gone, Lawrence needs a new safety blanket at tight end, and Colston Loveland fits the bill with his dynamic skill set. His vertical ability to stretch the seams adds a significant weapon to the offense. Moreover, his versatility and athleticism make him a reliable option to create mismatches in big situations.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Loveland’s selection to the San Francisco’s in Round 1 with the 14th pick:

If Penn State tight end Warren is still available here, the Indianapolis Colts should go with the Penn State standout. If not, Colston Loveland is the choice. The burly 6’5″, 250-pounder totaled nearly 1,500 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns for Michigan over three years, including 582 yards and five touchdowns on 56 catches last season.

Those numbers would be welcome for a Colts team with 467 yards combined from its top four tight ends in 2024. Loveland brings the traditional tight end blocking skill set desirable for a team still relying on Jonathan Taylor’s (1,431 yards, 11 touchdowns rushing in 2024) groundwork.
