It wasn’t without conflict, however, as the Buffs needed some magic from their star quarterback to overcome the FCS power.
Sanders wowed the sold-out crowd in attendance and the millions watching on ESPN as the marquee game on the Thursday slate.
When all was said and done, Sanders’ statistical showing was a thing of beauty.

The creation capacity showcased on this play was only matched by the toughness Sanders displayed after he took a clear shot after his release.
Even Sanders’ lone interception on the evening came on a play that looked like some sort of software glitch from EA Sports College Football 25.
Sanders’ interception hit off the leg of a defender and popped into the air, right into the arms of a waiting linebacker.

That pass aside, Sanders was flawless. And he had to be.
The Buffaloes struggled to limit the North Dakota State offense, and the Buffs’ defense allowed NDSU QB Cam Miller to account for three touchdowns himself.
It was a battle until the final play when NDSU’s Hail Mary attempt came up just a few yards short of an incredible upset.
In a true quarterback duel, however, it was Sanders who shined the brightest.
In fact, Sanders’ early-season performance in front of a national audience and against such an FCS powerhouse helped cement him as not only a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate, but also a player primed for a career in the NFL.
Sanders’ success in Week 1 puts the Colorado offense on a path of destruction this season that surely should strike fear into opposing Big 12 defenses.
