Houston Cougars Depth Chart
The Houston Cougars football team represents the University of Houston and competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) as a member of the Big 12 Conference. They play their home games at TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Cougars’ football program was established in 1946, making it a relatively young program compared to some of its peers. Despite its youth, the Cougars have built a respectable history in college football.
They have experienced several periods of success, including a notable run in the 1970s under head coach Bill Yeoman, who introduced the veer offense, and the rise of the “Run and Shoot” in the late 1980s and early 1990s with QB Andre Ware at the helm. In more recent years, Houston has seen a resurgence, with multiple conference championships and bowl game appearances. The program's success led to its invitation to join the Big 12 in 2023, marking a significant step up in competition and prestige for the Cougars.
