Akron Zips Depth Chart
The Akron Zips football team represents the University of Akron and competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). They are a proud member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Zips play their home games at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field, located in Akron, Ohio. The program has a rich history, dating back to its inception in 1891, when it was known as Buchtel College.
It became the University of Akron in 1913, and in 1926, the athletic teams adopted the Zippers” name in reference to the rubber boots manufactured by the B.F. Goodrich Company, which was headquartered in Akron at the time. The team's colors are navy blue and gold, and their mascot, 'Zippy' the kangaroo, is a beloved symbol of school spirit.
