Top Stars Shake Up 2025 College Football Transfer Portal Window on April 23rd

April 23 brought its fair share of shake-ups in the college football transfer portal. That includes UCF’s losses, Jason Hewlett’s move, and more.

    UCF Losses

UCF football head coach Scott Frost entered the transfer window with one key objective: roster retention. The window closes Saturday, and while UCF didn’t lose a high number of players, a few notable names did depart.

Cornerback Qua Birdsong, wide receiver Kason Stokes, offensive tackle Chase Malamala and kicker Grant Reddick all entered the portal today. Cornerback Tre’Quon Fegans found his new home with Jacksonville State.

These are tough losses for UCF, but Coach Frost and the team will have to roll with the punches. The transfer portal hits every program, and UCF wasn’t spared from the drama.

    Jason Hewlett to Boston College

Jason Hewlett, one of the most sought-after linebackers in the portal, has committed to the Boston College Eagles after leaving the Michigan Wolverines. It’s a big pickup for head coach Bill O’Brien and Boston College.

Hewlett spent just two years in Ann Arbor. He didn’t see much playing time, recording only three tackles during the 2024 season — all coming in a Big Ten showdown against Northwestern. Hewlett now looks for a fresh start at Boston College, where he hopes to see the field more often.

The Eagles hope to unlock the potential Michigan once saw in him. The talent is still there, but it’s up to Boston College to bring it out. Hewlett will join the program ahead of his redshirt sophomore season.

Julius Pope, Shamar Easter, and Others Enter the Portal

Other notable players entering the portal today include tight end Shamar Easter and linebacker Julius Pope, both transferring from Arkansas and now seeking new opportunities. Senior cornerback DeAndre Boykins has found his new home at Oklahoma State after transferring from North Carolina.
