College Football Bowl Game Projections: Updated Postseason Outlook After Week 12

Week 12 was surely something to watch for all college football fans. Clemson finally got a big win after their season had gone off the rails this year. Texas was dominated by a Georgia team that clearly wanted to make a statement. The playoff picture was certainly affected. Let’s update the new CFP outlook after another week.

    Biggest Impact From Week 12

The Oklahoma Sooners’ win was definitely the most important game this week for the playoffs. The Sooners have two losses on the year. With this win, they should vault up the rankings and have a legit chance. On the other hand, Alabama should take a slide, coming off a loss.

The Texas Longhorns are the other big impact team. Losing the way they did in Athens didn’t look good at all for their hopes. If they were to keep that game close, there was a chance at least. Now, it would be surprising to see them playing their way back into it.

South Florida also lost to Navy, which now gives the nod to North Texas or James Madison to be the G5 representative. For now, we are going with North Texas.

Updated College Football Playoff Projections (if the season ended today)

    First Round

#12 North Texas at #5 Ole Miss
#11 Georgia Tech at #6 Texas Tech
#10 Notre Dame at #7 Oklahoma
    #9 Alabama at #8 Oregon

    Quarterfinals

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic: Oklahoma/Notre Dame vs #2 Indiana
Capital One Orange Bowl: Ole Miss/North Texas vs #4 Georgia
Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential: Oregon/Alabama vs #1 Ohio State
Allstate Sugar Bowl: Texas Tech/Georgia Tech vs #3 Texas A&M

    Breakdown

Oklahoma gets the nod against Oregon based on the resume points. While the Ducks have been strong, Oklahoma’s wins are stronger and keep them slightly ahead. The same argument is what we are going with for Texas Tech and Ole Miss. Until Tech wins that conference championship, there should be a hard time arguing their advantage against an SEC team.

In the top 4, nothing has really changed. Georgia slides up the rankings as the best one-loss SEC team. One interesting point would be a potential rematch in the Orange Bowl with Ole Miss. Other than that, the bracket is just shaken up by OU.

    Final Thoughts

This should be interesting for all college football fans. The rankings on Tuesday should give everyone a clearer picture. Whether that will excite or upset fans remains to be seen. At the end of the day, it is just another week of college football, and who can really complain about that?
