When Olivia Dunne Marked First Major SI Swimsuit Appearance By Opening Up On Struggles Of Being A Content Creator: “Social Media Is Hard”

Olivia Dunne, a former college athlete turned model and social media influencer, boasts a massive social media following. Dunne has enjoyed a celebrity status for years, and she is now making bigger moves after completing her LSU tenure.

In 2023, she became an SI Swimsuit model, which only brought more attention to her. While it all may look glamorous from the outside, being the center of attention comes at a cost, and Dunne knows it better than most people.

“People always comment stuff that they would never say to your face, so part of it is just having developed tough skin. Social media is hard,” Dunne told SI.

“That’s something that Paige Spiranac helped me with, just keeping certain parts of your life private. Making sure not to post things that, you know, maybe you don’t want people’s feedback on.”

Dunne has over 5.4 million followers on Instagram alone. In the social media age, it’s impossible to escape the trolls, but Dunne knows when it’s time to stand up for herself.

Dunne has been criticized for posting pictures in a leotard, something that’s essential for gymnasts. The problem with that environment, as per Dunne, is that no matter how hard one tries to ignore them, the comments get under people’s skin sometimes. Dunner has been a victim of that over the years.

Olivia Dunne on developing body image issues

During an appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s “What’s Your Story” podcast, Dunne opened up about her struggles. She revealed that the unnecessary criticism comes mostly from the male audience, and it’s not easy to deal with.

“I did have a very big male audience at the beginning of my college career. And that was hard. It was hard to feel like people were watching me, judging me. I’ve definitely have had some problems with some body issues.”

As a gymnast, Dunne developed muscles that are needed to perform better. Dunne revealed that she was called names because of those muscles that made her a good gymnast.

“When I first started posting, men were like, ‘I do not like those muscles.’ They were calling me a linebacker, they were calling me a football player.”

People have downplayed her success, often equating it to her looks. They tend to overlook the hard work it took for her to be recognized. One simply can’t become a star athlete without having the required skills and talent.
