Coastal Carolina Fans Pack Springs Brooks in Historic Night vs. Clemson

A record crowd packed Springs Brooks Stadium on Tuesday as No. 14 Coastal Carolina topped No. 9 Clemson 5–3, completing a sweep of the Tigers. The Chanticleers (38-11), who beat Clemson 9-2 in March, jumped ahead with two first-inning runs and never trailed.

Fans arrived early to take advantage of $1 hot dogs and discounted beer, creating a charged atmosphere. Defensive star Wells Sykes energized the sellout crowd with three dazzling catches in center field, while Coastal’s bullpen and clutch hitting stifled several Clemson (37-13) comeback bids throughout the night.

Chanticleers Shine Under the Lights, Sweep Tigers in Front of 5,300 Fans

Coastal Carolina delivered a statement victory Tuesday night, taking down No. 9 Clemson 5-3 in front of a record-setting 5,300 fans—the first official sellout in Springs Brooks Stadium history. The win capped a sweep of the Tigers, following an 8-2 road victory on March 25.

Fans also weighed in with their excitement and reacted.

“First true sellout Theyve sold out of reserved seating before but not berm and SRO,” a fan posted

“This being on ESPN+ and not on one of the main channels is a CRIME,” another said

The Chanticleers (38-11), ranked No. 14 by D1Baseball and No. 8 by Baseball America, used timely offense and lockdown pitching to hold off Clemson (37-13), who came into the night averaging over seven runs per game.

Freshman starter Luke Jones allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings, while five relievers combined to give up just four hits. Darin Horn (4-1) earned the win, and Ryan Lynch picked up his fourth save with a clean ninth.

“We’ve talked about the pitching since Day 1. They’ve been phenomenal,” CCU head coach Kevin Schnall said. “We’ve rode them very hard all year and those guys have responded in a really positive way and tonight was no different.”

Sebastian Alexander led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, including a pair of singles. Caden Bodine also reached base twice and scored in the first inning, while designated hitter Domenico Tozzi added a key RBI single in the seventh. Ty Dooley reached twice as well.

Clemson tied the game twice—once on a solo homer from Tryston McCladdie in the third, and again in the fifth on an RBI single by Cam Cannarella. Reliever Michael Gillen (0-1) took the loss after putting two runners aboard who later scored.

The previous Springs Brooks attendance record of 5,102, set during the 2023 NCAA Regional against Duke, was surpassed. CCU is now 21-3 at home this season.

“The Springs Brooks Stadium effect was huge,” Schnall said. “It’s the reason why we’re (21-3) at home right now.”
