Lane Kiffin stunned the college football world with his decision to go to LSU and leave Ole Miss in the middle of their national championship run. They had a secured spot in the college football playoffs with an 11-1 record in 2025.
While Kiffin had a record of ditching programs when they needed him, his move to LSU received a lot of flak from the fans as they believed he shouldn’t have left the Rebels, as they were enjoying the most triumphant season in their history, with an actual chance at winning a natty.
Talking about the criticism that Kiffin is getting over his decision to lead the Tigers, Colin Cowherd made a bold comparison to Jim Harbaugh on Monday and said that everybody is just looking out for themselves:
“So listen, this is Harbaugh to Michigan, Lane Kiffin to LSU. It’s massive. It’ll be controversial. It’ll be great for the sport. And one of the little guys gets burned. I don’t lose sleep on this stuff because I’ve been watching it my entire life, but wasn’t this bound to happen if you hired Kiffin?” Cowherd said.
“Yeah. I just think there’s no easy way to leave a school anymore, you know? I mean, these schools now are paying $50 million for a guy to go away in the middle of October. So, you have LSU out to poach your coach for the last month and a half. That’s abnormal.
You know, these buyouts got so extreme where like you and I kept saying, “Well, these guys are safe.” Turns out they’re not, and they’re getting bought out left and right.” John Middlekauff added.

Paul Finebaum Blasts Lane Kiffin for Destroying Ole Miss After LSU Call
While Paul Finebaum was among the first analysts to predict that Kiffin would jump ship and leave Ole Miss for LSU, he is still not happy with the decision.
During the Matt Barrie Show on Sunday, Finebaum said that nobody in Oxford trusted Kiffin anymore, hence no one was surprised by his decision to leave a national title contender team.
“But I think it’s blown up again, and as somebody who really likes Lane Kiffin, I feel badly that because of greed, because it’s better over there than it is where I am, even though my team is ranked in the Top 10 and LSU is nowhere to be found. Kiffin is going to blow up yet another SEC campus for his own personal greed.” Finebaum said.
Finebaum further said that he hopes Kiffin is successful at LSU, and believes he will be; however, he did point out that the ex-Ole Miss head coach has yet to have a national title in his resume.
