San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is one of the best players in the league when healthy. However, injuries have plagued him throughout his career. This past season, he only played in four games because of injuries. He also missed significant time in the 2020 and 2021 seasons while he was a member of the Carolina Panthers.
McCaffrey’s absence last year caused the 49ers to miss the playoffs after three straight years reaching the NFC championship game or better. This season, the 49ers are hoping a healthy McCaffrey can help bring the team back into Super Bowl contention. However, on Thursday, he was forced to stop practice early with a calf injury. This is particularly concerning, considering McCaffrey missed significant time last season because of calf issues.
Fortunately for 49ers fans, recent reports have indicated that McCaffrey should be available on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Christian McCaffrey Injury Update
Christian McCaffrey spoke with the media on Friday and gave an update on his calf injury. The update was positive as he indicated that his situation was blown out of proportion.
“Nothing serious,” Christian McCaffrey said. “I feel great about where I’m at. Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don’t practice things get blown out of proportion.”
While he is still listed as questionable, all signs are pointing to McCaffrey playing against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Is Christian McCaffrey Playing Today?
McCaffrey is still listed as questionable on the injury report. However, most insiders have indicated that they believe McCaffrey should be good to go for the 49ers’ season opener against the Seahawks. Insider Ian Rapoport provided an update on Saturday afternoon.
“49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is questionable with a calf injury, but signs are pointing to him playing vs the Seahawks, per The Insiders. McCaffrey was running around on the side during practice on Friday and was optimistic to reporters. Barring a setback, it’s likely he’ll go,” he wrote on X.

When Will Christian McCaffrey Be Back?
Christian McCaffrey is expected to be available on Sunday against Seattle unless he suffers a setback. If that is the case, he will likely be available in Week 2. It does not sound like 49ers fans have much to worry about with their star running back at the moment.
