“Disappointed, but Not Surprised”: Trinidad Chambliss’ Attorney Slams NCAA Decision After QB’s Sixth-Year Waiver Is Denied

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss submitted a waiver for a sixth-year of eligibility earlier this week. Today, the NCAA announced that they’ve denied Chambliss’ request.

Chambliss began his NCAA career with Ferris State and redshirted his freshman year. In 2024, he became their starter and led them to a 14-1 record before transferring to Ole Miss prior to the 2025 season.

Chambliss began this season as Austin Simmons’ backup but became Ole Miss’ starter when Simmons was hurt early in the season. Chambliss led Ole Miss to a 13-2 overall record and played in the College Football Playoff Semifinals last night.

Running out of eligibility, Chambliss’ intention was to return to Ole Miss for one more season, but had that denied. His attorney, represented by Tom Mars, wrote a statement slamming the NCAA for denying Chambliss a sixth season of eligibility.

    Mars wrote:

“I’m disappointed, but not surprised. The last time I checked, however, the only score that matters is the one at the end of the fourth quarter. I understand that Ole Miss will file an appeal with the NCAA.”

“However, there’s now an opportunity to move this case to a level playing field where Trinidad’s rights will be determined by the Mississippi judiciary instead of some bureaucrats in Indianapolis who couldn’t care less about the law or doing the right thing. Whether to pursue that course of action is a decision only Trinidad and his parents can make.”

Where Will Trinidad Chambliss Go in The 2026 NFL Draft?

While Ole Miss can still appeal the NCAA’s decision to not grant Chambliss a sixth season, it seems likely he will be heading to the NFL after a second denial.

If and when Chambliss does declare for the draft, he will certainly be a quarterback of interest for many quarterback-needy teams. Chambliss played division two football for four of his five seasons but had one of the more exciting and unexpected seasons this year.

He threw for 3,660 yards, 21 touchdowns, and three interceptions this season and also rushed for eight touchdowns.

Aside from inexperience playing the top schools in the nation, Chambliss stands at just 6-foot-1 inch and weighs 200 pounds.

Chambliss would likely be a day two or day three NFL pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
