Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck earned the No. 28 spot in CBS Sports’ Top 150 college football players for 2025 and ranked as the seventh-best quarterback. The recognition follows a standout 2023 campaign, where he posted 3,498 passing yards and 28 touchdowns before a UCL injury kept him out of the SEC championship game.
After transferring from Georgia, where he started for two seasons, Beck’s move to Miami has drawn significant attention. However, the buzz around his ranking has been clouded by controversy involving a reportedly fraudulent $4 million Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreement.

Carson Beck Shines in CBS Rankings Amid Fake NIL Allegations
Miami quarterback Carson Beck has been caught in a swirl of speculation surrounding a rumored $4 million NIL deal—one that now appears to have never existed. Reports linking Beck to multimillion-dollar Name, Image, and Likeness compensation with the Hurricanes, as well as claims of $10 million earned during his time with Georgia, have been called into question.

CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell recently cast doubt on the validity of Beck’s supposed NIL earnings while weighing in on Nico Iamaleava’s high-profile departure from Tennessee. “I still can’t believe people advising Nico thought Carson Beck getting $4 million from Miami was a real number. What a massive misread,” Kanell posted.
Beck’s move from Georgia to Miami was a straightforward decision, reportedly influenced by his relationship with social media personality Hanna Cavinder. However, recent rumors suggest the couple’s status may be uncertain.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Max Olson described Iamaleava’s transfer market as underwhelming.
“Iamaleava’s future is in the hands of his father, Nic, and a trusted family friend named Cordell Landers, a former Florida personnel staffer. Both are representing the quarterback in discussions with schools,” they reported.
The duo also noted the challenges of the current spring portal, citing poor timing and reputational baggage from his Tennessee exit.
“Finding a better football fit than Iamaleava had at Tennessee, where he was entering his third year, will be difficult,” they added. Despite Iamaleava being tagged as “no-contact” by Wednesday, interest remained. Still, it’s unlikely he’ll command the kind of financial offers falsely attributed to Beck.

As the landscape shifts, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal addressed the chaotic nature of the transfer portal and NIL world.
“You’ve got to realize something: once you allow that to happen, and you agree to it, well, prepare for a line of 80 guys doing the same thing,” Cristobal said.
