BYU head coach Kalani Sitake seems to believe that despite this Saturday’s 34-7 loss at the Big 12 championship against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, there’s an argument to be made for the Cougars to be included in the College Football Playoff later this month.
For Sitake, the Red Raiders are clearly the best team in the nation, and losing to them twice isn’t as much a blemish on the Cougars’ record as conventional wisdom would have you believe.
Speaking at the postgame press conference, BYU’s head coach said other teams will soon find out how good a team Texas Tech really is. He slipped in a hope that they would be able to make the CFP and pull off a victory over the Red Raiders.
“Who’s played the best team in the country twice? We have… everybody else will find out… I’d love to have a third chance at them,” Sitake said.

It’s unlikely the CFP committee will consider the BYU Cougars after they fell 34-7 this Saturday. This is their second loss to Texas Tech this season, having lost 29-7 in early November.

BYU’s Kalani Sitake On Why The Cougars Lost To Texas Tech
During the same press conference, Sitake opened up about the reasons he thought were behind his team’s loss to Texas Tech.
“You can’t make a lot of mistakes like we did. We’ve learned it again. That’s the second time this year,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said. “I’ve said it before, I think they’re the best team in the country and I’m confirming it. They’re the best team in the country. It just so happens that we had to play the best team in the country twice.”
There’s no denying that the Cougars failed at one of the most important basics of the sport: not turning over the ball. The Red Raiders forced four turnovers on BYU, two fumbles and two interceptions. No team can recover from that.
