BYU’s first season in the Big 12 did not go to plan. With a difficult schedule, the Cougars could only manage to finish 5-7 and failed to make a bowl game.
Moving forward, 2024 will mark the eighth season for head coach Kalini Sitake as the Cougars look to bounce back in their second season in a new-look conference. Here is the BYU 2024 football schedule.

BYU has an unexotic start to their season, with three non-conference games against Southern Illinois, Wyoming, and SMU before they enter conference play. What a relief, compared to recent early-season stretches prior to joining the Big 12.
The schedule against intra-conference teams looks a great deal more exciting and offers an opportunity for BYU in their second Big 12 season.

The Cougars lost some close games in 2023, including against Oklahoma State and Kansas. They will play again in 2024. Despite their record, BYU was not far away, and the Cougars will hope more goes in their favor in 2024.
The game that BYU will most be looking forward to is Utah, which looks set to take place during Rivalry Week in November.
The rivalry between BYU and Utah is known as the “Holy War” and it’s a deeply passionate one. The two have played almost every season since 1922. The game paused for WWII and wasn’t played in 2014 or 2020 when Utah played Michigan and Florida instead. The game is now essentially locked in for the future with the pair now in the same conference.
BYU has been blighted by long road trips in 2023, with reality in the Big 12 conference acting as a reality check. Their 2024 schedule, however, looks less straining, with shorter road games at Utah and Arizona State.
An advantage for the Cougars will be their home games, of which there are five. Provo has been a difficult place to visit in recent seasons, and the Cougars went 4-2 during conference play in 2023. With five conference home games, they will be looking to make a dent in a revamped Big 12.
