Can $10M QB Bryce Underwood Handle His First Road Test at Oklahoma?

The 2025 Michigan football season is less than 100 days away, and the Wolverines fans can’t wait to see what Sherrone Moore and his boys have to offer. More importantly, they’re looking forward to seeing what $10-12 million quarterback Bryce Underwood can offer as a starter.

Michigan will face Oklahoma in the second week of the 2025 college football season, and the Sooners have the opportunity to make an early statement and set the tone for the new season. Oklahoma will be fielding new quarterback John Mateer, who transferred from Washington State after leading the nation with 44 total touchdowns in 2024.

Why Does College Football Analyst Jake Crain Think Oklahoma Will Challenge Bryce Underwood?

Underwood is currently one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the nation, but CFB insider Jake Crain believes he’s walking into a hostile environment with Oklahoma and the result of that game could make an impact on both teams’ seasons.

“Oklahoma vs Michigan, I’m very high on Oklahoma,” Crain said. “I love Mateer, I love Arbuckle and I think that Oklahoma can actually do some big things this year even though the schedules, you know it’s never going to be a walk in the tulips in this league, but you get Michigan, you get Bryce Underwood early and there’s so many storylines in this game outside of Sherrone Moore going back.”

“Bryce Underwood, this is going to be your first big test, not your first game … in a hostile environment, it’s gonna be going nuts in Norman … is this a hump game? Is this one of those games?”

Michigan’s football program should have performed better than it did last season, but its quarterback room was responsible for the worst passing offense in college football. However, the arrival of Underwood, a five-star recruit, has brought a new vibe and energy to the Wolverines’ offense. Underwood is the highest-rated QB recruit in Michigan’s history.

Underwood hasn’t officially taken to the field for the Wolverines yet, but he’s already making an impact off the field. The top-ranked QB in the 2025 class was revealed as one of the cover athletes for EA Sports College Football 26. He features on the Deluxe Edition cover, becoming the first incoming true freshman to ever appear on a cover in the game’s history.

Underwood already received plenty of attention in high school, but his name went viral when he switched his commitment from LSU to Michigan in November.
