Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold was a member of the Oklahoma Sooners for the past two seasons. However, in the offseason, he transferred to Auburn. He had a solid season in 2024 with the Sooners, but only appeared in 10 games. This season, he looks like he is taking another step in his career, completing 48 of 69 passing attempts for 501 yards and four TDs in his first three games with the Tigers.
Week 4 will be his biggest test of the season thus far as No. 22-ranked Auburn is set to face Arnold’s alma mater, No. 11-ranked Oklahoma. Both teams are undefeated heading into the matchup, and Arnold’s former coach, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables, commented on Thursday to the media about Arnold’s play this year.
“I think he’s the same guy,” Brent Venables said. “I think he’s got a healthy football team around him, and he’s having great success, running, throwing, being really efficient. He’s taking care of the ball, and the people around him are good. Can’t play quarterback by yourself, right? So, I think their offense and their defense complement one another, and he’s really done a great job.”

Jackson Arnold Will Be an Underdog Against His Alma Mater
While Jackson Arnold has played well to start his career at Arnold, he has not had a test against a top opponent. Oklahoma will be the first-ranked opponent he faces as the starting QB of the Tigers. Both teams have won their first three games, but Oklahoma’s wins include a Week 2 victory over No. 21-ranked Michigan.
Oklahoma’s proven track record this season makes it the favorite for this matchup. On FanDuel, the Sooners are -255 favorites to win the game, whereas the Tigers are +205 underdogs.
While Auburn is an underdog, Jackson Arnold has looked poised early in the season and could lead the Tigers to an upset. He has already helped the Tigers get off to one of their best starts in years. Adding a win over a ranked opponent would be the next step to proving he can compete with some of the other top QBs in the SEC. He will be up against a Heisman contender in Oklahoma, quarterback John Mateer.
