    One of the weirder conspiracies of the college football offseason has officially been laid to rest as new North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick has officially signed his university contract.

    While some thought it was dicey, Belichick was never in danger of leaving the Tar Heels in the wind. Now, he’s officially in the boat and worried Tar Heel fans can rest easy.

    Bill Belichick Silences Doubters, Signed Coaching Contract

    It’s not uncommon for head coaching contracts to go weeks or even months without being signed, but it still doesn’t make fans feel comfortable, especially when it’s a 72-year old lifelong NFL coach at the center. Now, the contract with Belichick’s $10 million salary is officially signed.

    But even amongst rumors of a quick return to the NFL, Belichick never had plans to leave Chapel Hill so soon. He’s surprised many doubters, working tirelessly on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal.

    The Tar Heels have momentum with each, picking up 18 transfers and sending out a flurry of offers to high school recruits. Belichick is working harder than many expected and he’s bringing a bevy of coaching talent to Chapel Hill.

    Now, he’s put pen to paper on his employment agreement, easing the doubts of skeptical Tar Heel fans. His contract will have a base salary of $1 million per year, with $9 million in

    His buyout still drops to $1 million after June 1, per the terms of the agreement, but that’s not unusual for North Carolina. Mack Brown’s coaching contract had a similar structure, with the former UNC coach having a base salary of just $900,000.

    Belichick is saying all of the right things that indicate his desire to coach multiple years in college football.

    While that isn’t a given, signing his coaching contract is the first step to proving he’s here to stay.
