Interim head coach Biff Poggi joined Michigan this year as associate head coach. However, he can see how the program needs massive introspection, given what has happened in the building in the last five years.
He basically called out the University of Michigan, asking for self-introspection after the Sherrone Moore fallout. Moore was fired by Michigan after he was allegedly involved in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. His subsequent arrest and uncertainty on who will lead the program going forward have jeopardized the future of several recruits and potential commitments. Before Moore, former head coach Jim Harbaugh was also possibly involved in a sign-stealing scandal two seasons ago when the program won the national championship.
In a recent press conference, Poggi said what it is, assuring parents and student athletes that the program is taking every necessary step to examine what has gone wrong in the last five years.
“It’s been five years of a malfunctioning organization. Let’s call it what it is, it’s happened every year,” Poggi said. “The athletic director doesn’t want any more of that … there will be a massive self-examination of what’s happened in this building.”

Biff Poggi Makes His Feelings Clear Regarding Michigan Job
After Sherrone Moore was fired, Biff Poggi was given his role in the interim, while the program finds a new candidate. In his recent press conference, Poggi indirectly implied that he is the perfect man for the job, especially given what the program has gone through recently. He thinks he can “fix the program.”
“Because I know what the hell I’m doing,” Poggi said. “I have a long, 10-year history of knowledge of this place. This place is really important to me. … This place is magical, the program means a lot to me and it’s one of the things I want to fix before I go smoke myself to death with cigars. It’s one of the things I want to fix. I want to fix this program.”
Poggi initially considered the interim role more of a babysitting but now he finds the opportunity an exciting challenge. He revealed that he has already engaged in interviews with the decision makers.
“Nobody knows what’s going to happen, I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he added. “I just appreciate being considered.”
It remains to be seen if Michigan decision makers find Biff Poggi a candidate for the job.
