New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler faced heat from MLB analyst Jared Carrabis following his latest start against the Washington Nationals.
On Saturday, Schlittler allowed back-to-back solo home runs to James Wood and Curtis Mead in the first inning, ending his streak of eight consecutive road starts without allowing more than one earned run.
After the second home run, Carrabis took aim at the pitcher on X.
“Definitely not regressing,” he wrote sarcastically. “Two homers allowed three batters into the game, but please don’t put on the internet that he’s regressing!”
However, Schlittler bounced back after the first inning. He pitched 6.2 innings, allowing no further runs and striking out six while walking six as the Yankees won 4-2.
The outing featured stranded runners in multiple innings, including an escape from bases-loaded trouble. The right-hander showed poise, delivering the Yankees a much-needed win amid their tough stretch.
The Yankees offense also came alive in the eighth inning when Ryan McMahon, Trent Grisham, and Paul Goldschmidt launched three home runs to erase the deficit.
Yankees Ace Cam Schlittler Assesses His Latest Outing
After allowing the Nationals to go up 2-0 early, Cam Schlittler allowed just two more singles.
After the game, Schlittler acknowledged where he went wrong in the first inning but said he was satisfied with how he adjusted.
“[Wood] made a good swing on a fastball up and in,” Schlittler told reporters. “Mead makes a good swing there, too, on a cutter above the zone. I just got beat there, so credit them for that. But I’ve just got to make adjustments. Good pitchers are going to battle through that or you’re going to crumble. I felt like I crumbled a little bit against Detroit.
“I feel like I can take today as a win in terms of just making those adjustments, getting deeper into the game then I probably should’ve been.”
Schlittler has started 20 games for the Yankees this year, posting a 9-5 record with a 2.05 ERA, 137 strikeouts and 25 walks.
