The Philadelphia Phillies have become the latest team to enter Bo Bichette’s sweepstakes this offseason. The Phillies reportedly met the All-Star infielder on Monday to discuss a move in free agency.
While the details of the conversation are not known, Bichette’s potential arrival in Philadelphia could have ramifications on Phillies’ infield. Phillies All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm is expected to be the player who could be moved around in the infield to accommodate Bichette.
However, MLB insider John Stolnis is of the view that the Phillies could trade Alec Bohm to make room for the two-time All-Star shortstop on the roster.
”If the Phillies sign Bo Bichette, what do they do? Who gets moved? They got to figure somethings out. We have been talking about Alex Bohm and there’s a couple of different options here.”
“The first is the most obvious and that’s that they trade Alec Bohm. It seems though, the option there would be to slide Bryson Stott to third base, which is a positive he played when he first got called up to the Phillies at the start of the 2022 season.”
Bohm reportedly avoided an arbitration hearing after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Phillies that would see him earn a $10.2 million salary in 2026.
MLB Insider Feels Bo Bichette Can Help Phillies’ Postseason Struggles
The Phillies’ interest in Bo Bichette has picked up despite the infielder being strongly pursued by the Boston Red Sox and their AL East rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays.
After the Phillies met Bichette virtually this week, MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that they had a positive conversation, and the infielder’s arrival in Philadelphia could help them get over the line in October.
”The Phillies, though, need another right-handed bat, and are at the point where their fanbase will be upset if they don’t sign Bichette,” Heyman reported. He could shift to second or third base (probably second) and potentially help them to get over the hump in October if he puts on red pinstripes.”
Bichette, who has predominantly been a shortstop for most of his Blue Jays career, covered second base in the latter part of Toronto’s 2025 season that ended in a World Series loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
