Despite concerns, Todd McShay beiieves Texas’ Arch Manning might be the best prospect the NFL Draft has seen in ages.
Arch Manning’s Accuracy, Mechanics, and Maturity Impress A Few NFL Draft Experts Already
With all eyes on the University of Texas’ Manning with the upcoming football season, there are some experts who aren’t totally sold on the hype making him a potential top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, should he enter. But others, including veteran analyst Todd McShay, have bought in to his upside.
“There are two things that catch my attention,” McShay wrote on Monday. “First: this kid has it all in terms of talent. I’m not saying he’s Lamar Jackson as a runner or that he has Josh Allen’s arm, but Arch has all the tools. His combination of prototypical size, mobility, excellent throwing mechanics, and natural accuracy… he has everything to be a great player.”
In the 2024 season, Manning served as a backup quarterback, playing in 10 games and starting in two of them. During that season, he completed approximately 68% of his passes for 939 yards, nine touchdowns, and only two interceptions.
“The more he played, the fewer negative notes I had on him, and the more I was impressed by his ability to not make the same mistake twice,” McShay added. “That speaks to a hungry and very coachable player.”
He continued on his Substack newsletter, “Factor in his combination of raw talent, family background, and elite quarterback coaching in the form of Steve Sarkisian, and Arch in as good a position to succeed as any QB prospect in recent memory.”
The renowned scout added that he didn’t expect Manning to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, but he wouldn’t be shocked if he played well enough to be one of the top choices for 2027.
