The 2024 college football season is over, and it’s time to look ahead to 2025. Creating lists is what we sports journalists do best during the offseason, and CBS Sports just dropped their top 10 QBs for 2025.
CBS’s list is very interesting, with some guys who have played minimal college football snaps out in front.

CBS Sports 2025 QB Rankings
1) Arch Manning, Texas Longhorns
I don’t think Arch Manning should be the number one overall quarterback going into 2025, as he has only had three starts throughout his college career.
While Eli and Peyton’s nephew has all the talent in the world, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he can be the best quarterback next season, I think he has much more to prove before we crown him preseason number one.
2) Cade Klubnik, Clemson Tigers
With how Cade Klubnik played down the stretch in 2024 for Clemson, I think he should be the number-one quarterback in college football going into 2025.
Klubnik proved he was among the elite players, dueling it out against Quinn Ewers and Texas in the College Football Playoff. With a big arm and solid athleticism, I think if Klubnik develops further in 2025, he could very well bring home the Heisman Trophy, be a top-ten draft pick, and lead the Tigers to playoff success.
3) Carson Beck, Miami Hurricanes
To me, this is a little high for Carson Beck, who transferred to Miami from Georgia after the 2024 season. Beck regressed big time from 2023 to 2024, and I don’t see him as a top-three guy going into next season.
If Beck can limit turnovers and become more accurate in 2025, I think he can be one of the best players in college football. However, he certainly has more to prove before we can put him in the top three.
4) Drew Allar, Penn State Nittany Lions
I think this is the perfect spot for Drew Allar. The young signal-caller showed significant improvement from 2023 to 2024 and should develop even further going into 2025.
Allar is a great athlete who has all the tools needed to be a top quarterback in the country. If he can step his game up to the next level in 2025, we could be looking at him as the best quarterback in the country.
5) Sam Leavitt, Arizona State Sun Devils
Sam Leavitt is someone who I think should be a bit higher on this list. While Cam Skattebo was the focal point of the Sun Devil offense in 2024, Leavitt balled out as well, proving that he can lead head coach Kenny Dillingham’s offense effectively through the air.
Leavitt only has one season of starting under his belt, and I would expect a big offseason of development under Dillingham’s leadership. I think right now, Leavitt should be regarded as a dark horse Heisman contender and should be poised to be one of the best QBs in 2025.
6) Garrett Nussmeier, LSU Tigers
I think Garrett Nussmeier should be top three on this list above guys like Manning and Beck. While LSU had a down season last year, I believe Nussmeier was the bright spot on the team and helped them win a lot of games.
To me, Nussmeier is the best pure football thrower in the country and can make every throw on the field. He doesn’t have the athletic upside of some of the other guys on this list, but he’s accurate and has a strong arm. If he limits his turnovers in 2025, expect him to be closer to the top of the list by season’s end.
7) LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina Gamecocks
Of the guys on this list with the most upside and who can really put up groundbreaking numbers in 2025, I think LaNorris Sellers is the highest.
How anyone could say that Manning, Beck, Allar, or Leavitt is better than Sellers, given last season, is beyond me. Sellers has a cannon of an arm and is the most athletic quarterback in the country, putting up over 650 rushing yards and seven TDs on the ground. If there was one guy on this list that I would pick to have the best season in 2025, it’s Sellers.
8) Sawyer Robertson, Baylor Bears
Sawyer Robertson is a somewhat unknown player to many college football fans. Baylor didn’t receive nearly as much national attention as the other quarterbacks’ teams on this list in 2024.
While Robertson wasn’t in the national spotlight last year, he was very good for the Baylor Bears and could probably be even higher than this spot. Robertson put up 28 passing touchdowns and only eight interceptions while throwing for over 3,000 yards in 2024. As he heads into his senior season, I anticipate he will get even better and maybe even lead Baylor to a Big 12 title.
9) Rocco Becht, Iowa State Cyclones
Rocco Becht led Iowa State to a Big 12 Championship appearance in 2024 and had a terrific season. He might not be as physically gifted as some other guys on this list, but I’m happy to see his name up here.
Becht had 3,505 yards in 2024, throwing for 25 touchdowns and leading Iowa State to a 10-win season. He doesn’t have a cannon, but he can push the ball downfield and make most throws. He did have under 60% completion in 2024, so if he brings that up in 2025, he can be even better.

10) DJ Lagway, Florida Gators
If CBS is putting Arch Manning at one, it’s probably because of his upside, so I don’t understand how DJ Lagway is number ten, given his upside.
In a limited sample size, the former top recruit in the 2024 class showed the college football world what he can do to turn the Gators’ season around. Lagway has all the tools wanted at the quarterback position, and if he shows development from 2024, limits turnovers, and becomes more accurate, there’s a real chance he’ll be the best player in the country in 2025.
