One of the most essential positions in college football is the quarterback. Thus, at the start of each season, there is much debate about the quarterback position for each team, as it is essential to the team’s success.
The quarterback situation with the Texas Longhorns has been generating a lot of attention due to the debate surrounding Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers.
Analyst Joel Klatt has also offered his take on the debate, and we have considered the facts.

Joel Klatt Compares Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers
In a recent episode of “The Joel Klatt Show,” he offered his unfiltered opinion when comparing Manning and Ewers. Klatt admitted that Manning starting just two games last season could affect his argument, but he still chose him as the No. 2 quarterback for the 2025 season.
To solidify his stance, he compared him with Ewers.
“With Arch, you’ve got a big quarterback, 6’4″, 225 lbs, he can move, he’s got a stronger arm than Quinn,” Klatt said.
Klatt also admitted the offense might look different under Manning than it did with Ewers.
“There is a difference to the offense when Manning went in than when Quinn was in,” Klatt said. “This is not a knock; it just becomes more dynamic, and the reason is that Arch puts more players in conflict on the field than Ewers did.”
A Bold Truth and a Cause for Joy
Klatt also mentioned another bold truth—a cause for joy for Texas.
“Arch puts edge defenders in conflict because he can run!” Klatt said.
Being mobile is crucial for a quarterback, making Manning a significant talent.

Manning is the best option for replacing Ewers. While he does not yet have Ewers’ experience and leadership qualities, he is ready to start building his career. Importantly, he will be a suitable replacement for Ewers.
The Longhorns need not worry about the quarterback position. Manning will provide the necessary cover and could lead the team to success. Texas will have a great season if Manning can rise to the occasion.
