The landscape of the AAC shifted slightly ahead of the 2024 college football season in terms of new member schools. The AAC lost SMU to the ACC and brought in Army as a football-only member in 2024.

The Black Knights participated in football contests against member schools; however, the annual Army-Navy game remained at the end of the season and did not count toward conference records.

With 14 football members, the American Athletic Conference consists of 15 member universities:

    • East Carolina University
    • Florida Atlantic University
    • Rice University
    • Temple University
