Liam Doyle continued his outstanding 2025 performance on Friday, allowing just four hits over seven innings to beat Kentucky for his seventh win of the season. It was the third straight win for Tennessee, which is deep in contention for the No. 1 seed.

Liam Doyle Was Vols’ Big Star Again
20-year-old right-hander Liam Doyle was once again outstanding on the mound for the Volunteers. He held Kentucky to two runs in the first inning and allowed nothing else, striking out nine and walking one.
“One of those teams, and one of those games, and just one of those days, where you got to make big game changes to what your game plan was originally, which is fine,” Doyle said after the game, according to Volswire.
“With Frank [Anderson, pitching coach] helping me out and ease around the plate, you’re able to make those adjustments pretty easy, and just get a job done and give my team a chance to win,” he added.
The joy for the two runs in the first was short-lived for Kentucky as the Volunteers responded with three in the same inning. Tennessee controlled the game from there, adding a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and one more in the eighth for the final score of 8-2.

Cannon Peebles was the big man at the plate for Tennessee with three hits, including two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored. Kentucky’s Devin Burkes was outstanding with a home run and two RBIs.
Tennessee now has 33 wins and five losses overall, 12-4 in the conference. They are currently fourth in the NCAA rankings, behind Texas, Arkansas and Clemson in their quest to be named the No. 1 seed again this season.
This was Liam Doyle’s 10th game of the season, all as a starter. He has seven wins with only one loss, has 104 strikeouts in 58 innings, and has allowed 16 earned runs for a 2.48 ERA.
His off-the-charts WHIP (0.828) stands out, thanks to only 17 walks and 31 hits allowed.
