LSU vs. Auburn Bats to Watch

Jared Jones has been productive for LSU the past three seasons. Coming off a year where he hit 28 homers, the most in 16 seasons for the Tigers, Jones continues to hit opposing pitching. He leads the team with a .387 batting average, 11 home runs, and 48 RBIs. The junior was ranked as the top first baseman by D1Baseball.com.

In addition to Jones’ first base counterpart McMurray, Auburn is also getting key production from outfielder Ike Irish (.356, seven, 26) and catcher Chase Fralick (.345, three, 27).

LSU vs. Auburn Pitchers to Watch

LSU ace Kade Anderson (6-0, 2.85 ERA) is tied for fourth nationally in wins. Last week against then-No. 9 Oklahoma, Anderson tossed the school’s first complete-game shutout since 2018. He scattered five hits and struck out a season-high 14 in a 2-0 victory that set the tone for a three-game sweep on the road against the Sooners. Anderson has struck out 75 in 47 1/3 innings and is holding opposing hitters to a .211 batting average.

Anderson is slated to go up against Auburn’s ace, Samuel Dutton (4-2, 2.66 ERA), who spent the last three years at LSU, making 15 starts and 57 total appearances during his time there. Dutton was equally impressive in his last outing, striking out six and allowing just two hits in seven innings as Auburn 10-run ruled rival and then-No. 8 Alabama. It was his first win in three weeks.

If the series opener does get into the bullpens, both teams feature impressive arms. LSU’s duo of Casan Evans (1-0, 0.77 ERA, six saves) and Zac Cowan (2-0, 0.92 ERA, four saves) have combined for 79 strikeouts to just 13 walks in 21 combined appearances. William Schmidt, the 2024 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year, has posted a 5-0 record and a 3.09 ERA in 10 appearances.
