This surprises nobody, as Brownell has arguably been one of the best coaches in Clemson’s history. He has been with the program since 2010, and the Tigers are trying to lock him up for another six years. This comes fresh off the Tigers making it to the Elite Eight last year.
Clemson to Extend Brad Brownell’s Contract
This year, Clemson has an overall record of 27-6 and a conference record of 18-2. In the first round, they kick off their 2025 March Madness tournament against McNeese State on Thursday night. After Brownell led Clemson to the Elite Eight last season, they look to make another deep run this year.
Brownell is the Clemson Tigers’ most-winning coach, with 292 wins. Many outlets have reported Clemson to extend Brownell after the Indiana Hoosiers bypassed him for their head coaching position this past Tuesday.
The 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons mark the first time Brownell led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament for two consecutive years, a sign that he has this program rolling. Brownell has more than made his mark for Clemson, and while the final details of the contract are being put together, they are looking to have him continue his legacy for at least the next six years.
While it won’t be easy, Clemson will have a very tall task to return to the Elite Eight and even into the Final Four. With Clemson without their guard, Dillon Hunter, they are on a collision course for a massive showdown with No. 1 ranked Houston in the Sweet 16.
To make a deep run this year, Clemson will have to upset one of the best college basketball teams, the Houston Cougars, who are currently 30-4. While losing has been a rarity for Houston this season, stranger things have happened, and upsets happen in March.
