Bill Belichick is known for his unmatched football expertise. However, his recent actions at UNC have proven he’s just as committed to school spirit as he is to building winning teams.
With March Madness heating up, Belichick took a break from his football coaching duties. Especially to personally support both the UNC men’s and women’s basketball teams in a way that no one saw coming.

Bill Belichick’s Surprise Pizza Run Energizes UNC Basketball
From surprise pizza deliveries to motivational messages, the legendary coach has quickly become a beloved figure in Chapel Hill. The UNC men’s basketball team is gearing up for a high-stakes First Four showdown against San Diego State.

With that, Belichick made sure Tar Heel fans were fueled and ready for the action. He led a campus-wide effort to deliver pizzas to various UNC fraternities, ensuring that students had the perfect game-time meal while they cheered on their team.
But he didn’t stop there. In an even more unexpected move, Belichick personally delivered pizzas to the UNC women’s basketball team, who are set to face Oregon State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
As he stood in front of the team, Belichick expressed his admiration for their success and the journey ahead.
“It’s honestly a pleasure to be here, an honor to be here,” Belichick told the players. “We want to support you guys this weekend, I know you got a big one coming up. … We’ll be here pulling for you on Saturday. Want to wish you the best and congratulations on being a No. 3 seed.”
His words resonated with the team, reinforcing the idea that UNC athletes support each other across all sports.
A New UNC Tradition Under Bill Belichick
Since taking over as the Tar Heels’ head football coach, Belichick has gone above and beyond to immerse himself in the university’s athletic culture. However, his pizza delivery stunt wasn’t a one-time event. He previously did the same during the UNC-Duke rivalry game in January, an unexpected move that instantly won over students and fans.
Now, it seems that Belichick has kickstarted a new tradition, one that not only fuels the Tar Heel community with pizza but also fosters a stronger bond between athletes and students.
Beyond the symbolic act of delivering food, Belichick’s involvement speaks volumes about his commitment to UNC’s overall sports culture. While March Madness is currently the talk of Chapel Hill, Belichick’s ultimate goal is to channel this school spirit into the upcoming football season.
