Bill Murray can be spotted in the crowd at UConn games cheering on the Huskies. Keen eyes notice his son, Luke, prowling the sidelines.

Luke, now an assistant coach for the Huskies, attended Fairfield University, where he graduated in 2007. He began coaching AAU basketball during his freshman year, later serving as an assistant on the AAU team coached by former Boston Celtics head coach John Carroll.

Luke began his college coaching career in 2007, taking over as the director of basketball operations at Quinnipiac under coach Tom Moore. He was hired as an assistant coach at Post University one year later, then a graduate assistant at Arizona in 2009.

In 2010, Dan Hurley hired Luke for the first time as an assistant coach at Wagner. Luke left for Towson in 2011 before reuniting with Hurley in Rhode Island in 2013.

After two years in Rhode Island, Chris Mack hired Luke in 2015 at Xavier, and he followed Mack to Louisville in 2018. On top of his assistant coach duties, Luke was also the primary recruiter for the Cardinals, but his contract was not renewed at the end of the 2020-2021 season.

After his contract expired, Luke signed with Hurley at UConn, once again as an assistant. He was promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2022-2023 season, the first of UConn’s back-to-back national championships, and signed a three-year contract extension in July 2024.

Luke plays a vital role in implementing Hurley’s offense and developing front court players, ranking No. 1 in offensive efficiency in 2023-24 and No. 3 the year prior.

Luke mentored All-Conference front court players, including Adama Sanogo and Donovan Clingan, while also playing a role in UConn’s recruiting and scouting.

In 2022-23, Luke filled in for Hurley when he tested positive for COVID-19; the Huskies lost to Seton Hall 67-66.
