    Meet Fran McCaffery’s Family

The McCaffery family will be synonymous with Iowa for a long, long time. McCaffery and his wife, Margaret, who played college basketball at Notre Dame, have raised three sons and a daughter.

Their two oldest sons, Connor and Patrick, both played for McCaffery at Iowa during their college careers.

Connor McCaffrey posted the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio in NCAA history while at Iowa (3.59). He is also tied with former point guard Jordan Bohannon as the school’s all-time wins leader (111).

He is now an assistant under head coach Thad Matta at Butler University. Speaking of Butler, Patrick McCaffery transferred to play for the Bulldogs this season after playing for his father for five years.

The other McCaffery son is named Jonathan, and the daughter’s name is Marit.

Fran McCaffery’s Strong Run at Iowa

Simply put, McCaffrey changed the game in Iowa City for many years.

Again, he coached the team for each of the last 15 years before being relieved of his duties today. After being hired from Sienna, he would go on to lead the Hawkeyes to eight different 20-win seasons, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, and a Big Ten Tournament title in 2022.

His 297 career wins at Iowa are the most in the school’s history. Many Hawkeye fans will undoubtedly remember him for a long time because of his memorable wins, moments of anger and frustration with officials, and the way he treated his players.
