Everything Jon Scheyer Said Following Duke’s Win Over Georgia Tech

The No. 1 Duke Blue Devils (29-3, 19-1) were served bad news with a sigh of relief after Thursday’s ACC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (17-16, 10-10).

After superstar and projected No. 1 pick freshman forward Cooper Flagg went down with a sprained ankle, it was bated breath in Durham, NC. Following the game, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer delivered the news that x-rays were negative for Flagg, and he would likely be held out of the rest of the ACC Tournament.

What Jon Scheyer Said Following Duke’s Win Over Georgia Tech

Scheyer said it would be a “real long shot” for Flagg to be able to play in tomorrow’s ACC tournament semifinals against the winner of No. 4 Wake Forest and No. 5 North Carolina.

“It’s not about being ready to go tomorrow,” Scheyer said. “That’s not the most important thing for us. We’ve got to see if we can get him right for this run that we can make in the [NCAA] tournament.

“But I would have to be really convinced that we should even consider seeing if he can go [Friday]. He may not be able to go anyway. He probably won’t be able to go anyway. But I think it’s a real longshot, a real longshot.” Scheyer said Flagg was dealing with swelling, and he’d “have to be really convinced we should even consider seeing if he can go” Friday night.

“He sprained his ankle. X-rays were negative, which is great,” Scheyer said. “We just have to see how he recovers and how he goes from there”

Flagg, who had two points on 1-7 shooting, four rebounds, two steals, and a block in 15 minutes against the Yellow Jackets, was one of two hits the Blue Devils took in Thursday’s game.

Junior forward Maliq Brown left the game late in the first half with a dislocated shoulder, which Scheyer said was causing him “a lot of pain.” The forward logged six minutes before the injury.
