UConn Huskies Head Coach Dan Hurley is arguably one of the most polarizing figures in college basketball. But how well does the public know him? And how much of Hurley’s reputation is purely a public character?
ESPN seeks to confront those questions with an “E60” segment called “The Other Hurley.” The podcast gives Husky fans and college basketball enthusiasts an inside glimpse at what Hurley is like at home.

“I don’t think people realize how funny of a person he is,” Senior guard Alex Karaban said in a promo shared online by ESPN.
“Depends on the situation,” Dan Hurley Jr., Dan’s son, added. “It could be anywhere from, you know, dry humor to self-deprecation.”
“The Other Hurley” is set to premiere on ESPN on March 15 at 11 a.m. ET and will be available on ESPN+. While he is frequently portrayed as a superstitious and passionate person, the episode highlights his wit, normalcy, and the important role his family plays in his life.
Hurley also recently spoke with “60 Minutes” about the evolving landscape of collegiate basketball, citing concerns about the transfer portal and its effect on team dynamics.
He indicated that more than half of his squad is considering using the transfer portal, highlighting the challenges that coaches have in sustaining the team’s unity in the context of evolving NCAA rules.
Analysts have been discussing Hurley’s impassioned coaching style since he joined the staff in 2018. While some condemn his sideline conduct, others argue that it reflects his competitiveness and sincerity.
Hurley admits to occasionally going beyond, but he remains steady in his approach, underlining that his passion contributes to the thrill of the game and his team’s success.
