Ryder Lyons Is the No. 5 Overall Prospect in the 2026 Class

Lyons is likely to land in the 2027 class, though, as he is taking a one-year missionary project through the Church of Latter-day Saints.

In an article by Sports Illustrated High School, Lyons expressed his excitement for what’s happening in Eugene, Ore.

“It makes it, for sure, much more stable,” Lyons said. “I don’t think Coach Lanning is a coach stability problem.”

Lyons referenced the success of the Oregon Ducks’ Dan Lanning, who has had 10-3, 12-2, and 13-1 seasons at the helm and eight players taken in the NFL Draft from the school.

Lyons also noticed Lanning’s recent pay raise of $2 million per year.

Lyons also examined the success of Will Stein, the school’s offensive coordinator, who helped the Denver Broncos’ Bo Nix succeed at the college level.

So Why the Visit to Sacramento?

Lyons is from Folsom, Calif., and also likes that Sacramento State has raised $35 million in funds from reaching out to and networking with the business community. The school has also hired Brennan Marion.

He told ABC 10, “I think anytime you see coaches that have came before you and trailblazed the path, you feel like, man, maybe one day that can be me. And it’s just been a blessing for me for it to be me, to be one of the chosen ones and have this opportunity here in Sacramento State.”

Lyons has delivered at Folsom High School, where he has thrived through the air and on the ground. He boasts 44 touchdowns and 2,874 passing yards, with 556 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns rushing. He has also seen interest from teams like Michigan, as well.
