Saint Mary’s Headlines 2024–25 WCC Men’s Basketball Awards As Conference Announces Winners

The 2024-25 West Coast Conference (WCC) men’s basketball awards have been revealed, and No. 21 Saint Mary’s dominated the honors, nearly sweeping the major categories.

Gaels head coach Randy Bennett secured his fourth consecutive WCC Coach of the Year title. At the same time, Augustas Marciulionis and Mitchell Saxen repeated as WCC Player of the Year and WCC Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.

Saint Mary’s added two more accolades to its trophy case, with Paulius Murauskas earning WCC Newcomer of the Year and Mikey Lewis taking home WCC Sixth Man of the Year honors. The only major award that didn’t go to the Gaels? After an outstanding first-year campaign, Portland’s Austin Rapp claimed WCC Freshman of the Year.

All the Winners From the 2024–25 WCC Men’s Basketball Awards

Saint Mary’s dominance continued beyond individual accolades, as the Gaels secured three first-team All-WCC selections, tying with Gonzaga for the most in the conference. Marciulionis, Saxen, and Murauskas all earned spots on the All-WCC First Team, highlighting Saint Mary’s control over both ends of the floor.

Marciulionis’ back-to-back Player of the Year wins make him the first outright repeat honoree since Blake Stepp (2002-03, 2003-04), further cementing his legacy. Meanwhile, Saxen’s defensive prowess led to him becoming just the second player in WCC history to win consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards.

On the coaching side, Bennett’s seventh career Coach of the Year award comes after leading Saint Mary’s to a 17-1 conference record and another regular-season championship. The Gaels’ defense, ranked No. 1 in WCC play, has been a key factor in their sustained success.
