The No. 2 Duke Blue Devils delivered a dominant performance against Miami on Tuesday night, easily securing a 97-60 victory over the struggling Hurricanes. However, the team’s commanding display became a secondary storyline as concern grew over a significant injury suffered by junior guard Tyrese Proctor late in the first half.

Jon Scheyer’s Update on Tyrese Proctor’s Injury
Following the game, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer shared his immediate reaction to Proctor’s injury.
“We have to get him back, get X-rays, MRI. He got hit in the leg; that’s the extent of what I know,” the coach said.
During his postgame radio interview, Scheyer expanded slightly but provided no definitive details.

“He’s tough. He got hit on the leg, we’ve got to get him some imaging and we’ll go from there.”

“He’s tough,” Scheyer said. “He got hit on the leg. We’ve got to get him some imaging, and we’ll go from there.”
Proctor, now in his third season at Duke, had been experiencing the best statistical year of his career before the injury.
He was averaging a career-high 11.8 points per game while shooting an efficient 43.7% from the field and an impressive 40.8% from three-point range—both personal bests.
His offensive contributions have been particularly significant over the past several games. This includes two standout performances in which he scored 23 points against both Clemson and Stanford.
Over his last five games, he has been averaging 19.4 points, demonstrating his growing consistency as a scorer.
Although Duke’s victory over Miami was expected, Proctor’s injury quickly became the main talking point.
The game itself showcased strong performances from freshmen guards Kon Knueppel and Isaiah Evans, while superstar Cooper Flagg continued to make a major impact.
However, instead of focusing on Duke’s offensive firepower or Miami’s potential hiring of Blue Devils associate head coach Jai Lucas following the season, all attention shifted toward the uncertainty surrounding Proctor’s status moving forward.
Duke’s Immediate Response Following Proctor’s Injury
The injury occurred in transition as Proctor was hustling back on defense following a missed shot. Miami guard Divine Ugochukwu aggressively pushed the ball up the court, forcing Proctor to sprint back to stop a fast-break opportunity.
Although there was minimal physical contact between the two players, Proctor immediately showed discomfort and hobbled off the court without hesitation.
The severity of the injury was not immediately clear, as the Duke bench took a moment to realize that Proctor had made his way directly to the locker room. Still, the referees paused the game, and within minutes, Duke officials confirmed that Proctor would not return.
He never reappeared on the bench in the second half, so Evans took his place in the rotation. Before leaving the game, Proctor logged seven points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in just 14 minutes of play.
As for the rest of the Blue Devils, Duke maintained offensive rhythm, following up their 110-point explosion against Illinois with another strong shooting performance. The team shot 56.1% from the field and knocked down an efficient 15-of-25 from three-point range, securing the blowout win.
Duke is already dealing with significant injury concerns, as forward Maliq Brown remains sidelined after dislocating his shoulder in last week’s victory over Virginia. Proctor’s absence further complicates the team’s depth as the Blue Devils prepare for a critical stretch of games.

With Proctor’s status uncertain, No. 2 Duke must quickly adjust before facing two conference opponents in a short time frame. The Blue Devils will host Florida State on Saturday before closing our regular-season play against Wake Forest next Monday.
The first game of the ACC Tournament tips off on Tuesday, March 11, so the second-ranked team in the country will need to figure it out quickly.
