Thomas Sorber of the Georgetown Hoyas, who established himself as one of the top freshmen in the nation, suffered an injury last week, causing him to undergo season-ending surgery.

The official Georgetown Hoyas X account reported this morning that star forward Thomas Sorber will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.
“On Saturday, February 15, freshman Thomas Sorber suffered a left foot injury that necessitates surgery,” the X post said. “He will undergo surgery on Wednesday, February 26 and a full recovery is expected. He will not play the remainder of the 2024-25 season.”

The Hoyas’ freshman played just 12 minutes against the Butler Bulldogs before suffering the injury and exiting from the game. Sorber had played a perfect game up to that point, scoring 10 points and nailing each of his five shot attempts.
It put a cap on a terrific season for the former four-star recruit from Philadelphia, PA. Sorber entered as the 50th-ranked player in the nation according to 247 Sports. He far outplayed that ranking, proving to be one of the top freshmen in college basketball in 2024-25.
He finished with averages of 14.5 ppg, a team-high 8.5 rpg, and 2.4 apg. He was also a force on the defensive end, as evidenced by his 2.0 bpg and 1.5 spg.
Entering the season, the 6’10”, 255-pound forward wasn’t expected to be a one-and-done prospect. But after the season he had, he’s a candidate to be picked in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft.
It remains to be seen if he’ll declare for the draft or return to Georgetown, where he’d undoubtedly be one of the best big men in the country ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The Hoyas currently have a 16-11 record. Since Sorber went down, they’ve gone 1-1, splitting games against the Providence Friars and Creighton Bluejays.
Left on the schedule are the UConn Huskies, Marquette Golden Eagles, Villanova Wildcats, and DePaul Blue Demons. Georgetown holds little hope of making the NCAA Tournament –barring a run through the Big East tournament. But without Sorber, that path looks ever murkier.
