‘Couldn’t Have Been Nicer’ — USC Prospect Alijah Arenas Already Making Fans Ahead of College Career

Valentine’s Day is about showing love to others. McDonald’s All-American and five-star guard Alijah Arenas decided to show love to his fans this Friday by offering to sign autographs for them after his high school basketball game.

Five-Star Guard Alijah Arenas Signs Autographs After Decisive Victory

According to Connor Morrissette’s Twitter page, the 6’6” guard stayed behind after his Chatsworth HS (CA) Chancellors handily defeated the Birmingham HS (CA) Patriots 79-48. This comes two weeks after Arenas announced his commitment to the USC Trojans as a member of the 2025 class.

It only made sense then that the California native would want to celebrate in the area where he would continue playing basketball. A few nights after he scored a ridiculous 63 points, his team showed up to Birmingham’s gym and won their eighth straight game of the regular season.

Possibly knowing that most of these fans would support him in college, Arenas stayed after the game and gave them a moment they wouldn’t forget.

Morrissette’s tweet pointed out how kind the future Trojan was to everyone who wanted a signature. “He couldn’t have been nicer,” the reporter wrote of the preps star.

Arenas, the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, was a highly touted prospect in the class of 2026 before he decided to reclassify last December. On Jan. 30, Arenas announced his commitment to play for USC under head coach Eric Musselman.

His father, Gilbert, a three-time NBA all-star, started his career with the Golden State Warriors. In his second season, Musselman took over as head coach, and the former point guard started all 82 games, which helped him win the NBA’s most-improved player award.

Now the host of the ”Gil’s Arena” podcast with former UCLA star Josiah Johnson, Arenas allowed his son to announce his commitment on his show.

During the episode where Alijah made his announcement, the future Trojan Facetimed the head coach and broke the news to him. Musselman couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Alijah, congratulations, man,” the coach shouted over the phone. “You celebrate with your family; I’m gonna go celebrate with the coaches…Love it that you’re staying in Los Angeles, California.”

Despite courting an offer from his father’s alma mater, Arizona, Arenas’ decision to stay in Southern California was a huge step in Musselman’s plan to recruit locally.
