Duke vs. Clemson Prediction: Dick Vitale Returns to Booth As Cooper Flagg, Blue Devils Look to Avoid Upset

The Duke Blue Devils, riding high on a 16-game winning streak, will face their biggest test in weeks as they visit the Clemson Tigers, who claim the second spot in the ACC standings. The Tigers are coming off of a crushing three-overtime loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at home. The Blue Devils defeated the Syracuse Orange by 29 points — their seventh 20-point win in conference play.

Our Duke vs. Clemson prediction looks at whether the Blue Devils can keep it going in ACC play. Led by the freshman duo of Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel, Duke has looked unstoppable as of late; but can the scoring of Clemson guard Chase Hunter be enough to down the Blue Devils? Find out below.

Duke enters with a 20-2 record this season, going an undefeated 12-0 in ACC play. The Blue Devils are 12-8 ATS on the season, including 8-4 in conference and a 6-1 on the road.

The Blue Devils sport one of the nation’s top defenses; their over/under totals reflect that. Only nine of 22 games have gone over the listed point total, with just two of seven going over on the road.

The Tigers, second in the ACC with a 10-2 conference record, have gone 18-5 across the whole season. They’ve covered the spread in 13 of 23 games, as well as five of their last seven.

Relatively even as far as the total, 47.8% of the Tigers’ outings have gone over the point total. However, they’ve been significant better offensively on their home court; eight of their 13 home games have gone over.

Duke vs. Clemson CSN Power Rankings

Our power rankings have Duke slotted in the No. 1 spot, valuing the fact that they haven’t lost a game since November. Clemson is at No. 25, having fallen six spots after their loss to the Yellow Jackets.

While the Tigers are at home, our power rankings may suggest that the -7.5 is rather low considering Duke is, and has been, the No. 1 team for weeks.

    Prediction for Duke vs. Clemson

This game will be a key litmus test for Duke against the rest of the ACC; they’ve gone 12-0 in conference with the closest loss being seven points. Can anyone beat the Blue Devils?

Clemson may have the recipe to do so.

They have a high-scoring guard in senior Chase Hunter, who’s pouring in 17.7 ppg with performances of 20, 20, 23, and 28 in four of his last five outings. Their ultra-physical senior forward Ian Schieffelin produces a near double-double of 12.8 ppg and 9.5 rpg. Point  guard Jaeden Zackery — yet another senior — controls the pace for the Tigers.

While Clemson is headed by wily vets, Duke is led by a trio of impressive, potential lottery-selected freshman.

Cooper Flagg is the headliner, leading the team in points, assists, rebounds, and blocks. He’s been on a roll as of late — the game seems to come easy to the freshman phenom at this point in the season.

The sweet-shooting of guard Kon Knueppel, who’s shown the ability to create his own shot as the season’s gone along, is another key aspect of Duke’s title-contending squad. Down low, 7’2″ South Sudan native Khaman Maluach is second on the team in rebounds and puts in a staggering 74% of his shots.

I imagine this game being very similar to Duke’s matchup with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Jan. 25. The Demon Deacons, powered by their raucous home crowd, led by six points with eight minutes to go in a low-scoring contest before the Blue Devils turned on the jets, eventually pulling out a seven-point win.

The only difference I think we’ll see?

Clemson’s senior-laden group won’t relinquish the lead. The Tigers’ crowd will be just as loud, if not louder than the Wake Forest fans. A court-storming could ensue when the Blue Devils go down.

Take the Tigers money line at +220. Combine that with the under of 134.5 points and you’ve got yourself a solid Saturday night bet.

Picks: Clemson ML, Under 134.5 points

    Prediction: Clemson 65, Duke 61
