In EA Sports’ latest College Football 25 update, 64 players received adjustments to their overall ratings. For the 1-4 Seminoles, that news was anything but positive.
Florida State Hit Hard by College Football 25 Player Ratings Update
The player rating updates for Florida State were as follows:
- OT Darius Washington: -4 (88 to 84)
- EDGE Patrick Payton: -2 (90 to 88)
- OL TJ Ferguson: -2 (83 to 81)
- RB Roydell Williams: -2 (85 to 83)
- QB DJ Uiagalelei: -1 (85 to 84)
While the moves may seem inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, they were yet another blow to a program reeling after a spectacular undefeated season.
Florida State became the first preseason top-10 team in history to start 0-3 against three unranked opponents, highlighted by a Week 3 home loss to Memphis, a game for which the Seminoles paid the Tigers $1.3 million. And after a lone 14-9 win over Cal, the team added to the loss column in epic fashion in Week 5, falling 42-16 against new ACC member SMU.
The Seminoles have lost at least three of its first four games for the third time in coach Mike Norvell’s five seasons, causing a growing section of the fanbase to call for his job. While unlikely, especially after he signed an extension in January that brings his buyout to a whopping $65 million, it’s difficult to defend the utter collapse.
The Seminoles saw linear progression in each of Norvell’s first four seasons, going 3-6, 5-7, 10-3, and 13-1.
After losing 15 players to the NFL, they were expected to hit reality in 2024 — not plummet through the equator. Norvell has seven games to turn things around, but if the losses keep stacking up, Florida State may have to reassess his future.
Next up: FSU will host No. 15 Clemson on Oct. 5. According to our all-new College Football Playoff Meter (FPM), the ‘Noles own a paltry 17.9% win probability for the contest.
In fact, aside from their November matchups against North Carolina (52.8%) and Charleston Southern (92.9%), Norvell’s squad doesn’t have an expected win rate above 50% for any other game this season.
With Uiagalelei likely sidelined for most, if not all, of the season due to a finger injury, backup QB Brock Glenn is set to step in under center — a change that could ultimately prove to be an upgrade. DJU has completed just under 54% of his passes for 1,065 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Either way, the 2024 season is a lost one for the Seminoles, who are now only playing to salvage pride and lay the groundwork for a brighter future. And with multiple overall downgrades in CFB25, they’ll be just as disappointing to play as off the field.
