Florida State Seminoles QB Jordan Travis suffered a brutal leg injury in Florida State’s victory over North Alabama back in Week 12. In what was supposed to be a tune-up match before their rivalry game against Florida and a College Football Playoff push, Florida State’s season was suddenly derailed.
The aftermath following Travis’ injury is well documented.
What Happened to Jordan Travis?
Travis came down awkwardly near midfield after picking up a first down on a run, appearing to injure his left ankle as he was dragged to the ground by a North Alabama defender. Florida State’s left leg was put into an air cast, and he was carted off the field and taken to a nearby hospital.
Immediately after the game, Travis released a video from the hospital saying he was in good spirits following the injury. The following Monday, Travis released a statement via social media that his college career would be over due to this injury.

In his statement, Travis says while the injury “marks the end of my Seminole playing career, the great memories created here at FSU will never fade. … The journey this team set out on is not over yet as all of our goals still lie just ahead.”
Travis was out of eligibility to return to college following the season, but he will miss the last few games of his Florida State career; games that are likely the most important the program has had while he has been under center. Florida State has their in-state rival Florida left and then take on Louisville in the ACC Championship game.
Aftermath Following Travis’ Injury
Travis finished his FSU career with 8,715 passing yards, second in program history, with 66 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He is the program’s all-time leader in offensive yards (10,676) and is among the top five on FSU’s all-time stats in most of their passing accolades from completions to touchdown passes.
In relief of Travis, Tate Rodemaker stepped in to close out the game against North Alabama. Rodemaker finished the game 13-of-23 for 217 yards and two touchdowns and is expected to be the Seminoles’ starter under center moving forward.
Rodemaker started the Florida game the following week, earning a win but also suffering an injury himself. True freshman Brock Glenn finished the season as the starter, knocking off Louisville for the ACC Championship and a perfect regular season for the ‘Noles.
That was the last of the good news for the Seminoles, however. Following the ACC Championship and the hope that it instilled in the program, they were denied the right to represent themselves in the College Football Playoffs, falling to No. 5 on the final College Football Playoff Rankings and missing out on a spot in the semifinals.
Rodemaker hit the transfer portal and the Seminoles were selected to play in the Orange Bowl as opposed to a semifinal appearance. The ‘Noles got arguably the toughest test of the bowl season when they were selected to play the reigning, two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs from the SEC.
