Philadelphia Eagles RB Depth Chart: What Are Nick Sirianni’s Options If Saquon Barkley Gets Sidelined For Week 6

Running back Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles are trying to defend their Super Bowl championship from last season. While the season got off to a good start with the team winning its first four games, it suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, 21-17, to the Denver Broncos.

The team does not have much turnaround time this week, as it is in the Thursday Night Football Game against the New York Giants. Unfortunately for the Eagles, this could mean they will not have their star running back, Saquon Barkley. He appeared on the injury report for the first time this season on Monday with a knee injury. He was then a non-participant in practice on Monday and was limited in Tuesday’s walkthrough practice.

It is not clear when Barkley suffered the injury. However, there has been speculation online.

Barkley had his worst game statistically on Sunday. He only made six carries for 0 yards. In all previous games this season, he had at least 18 carries. If he is injured against the Giants, head coach Nick Sirianni will need to use his depth RBs.

Philadelphia Eagles Running Back Depth Chart Ahead of Week 6

If Saquon Barkley is unable to play on Thursday, the Eagles will likely turn to AJ Dillon and Will Shipley to share the load offensively. They are second and third on the running back depth chart, respectively. Dillon has 11 carries this season for 58 yards. Shipley has four carries for 26 yards. Neither player has been used much, largely because Barkley gets such heavy usage.

Another option for the Eagles is to run more designed run plays for quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts is the team’s second leading rusher behind Barkley, with 182 yards and four TDs on 43 carries. If the Eagles do not want to rely on their running backs below Barkley on the depth chart, they can put more responsibility in the hands of their quarterback.
